Introducing Kim Brouzes of Active Therapy +
Kim is an Athletic Therapist, owner of 2 multidisciplinary clinics called Active Therapy and Active Therapy 2.0, and co-owner of Move Medicine, a Sports Medicine clinic. She is also the CEO of Kinmetrix, a neck strengthening device taking the sport world by storm.
Who are the women in your life—past or present—who inspire you to keep going, and how do you honour them in your journey?
My inspiration comes from my Mom and my three girls. My mom is a strong Matriarch with a passion for family traditions and making memories. It is incredibly important to me that she knows how much she shaped who I am today. My three girls, well they keep me humble and remind me every day to be strong, and to reach beyond the horizon. My passion to do more and to help others comes innately from the beautiful women I have been blessed to call family.
What part of your motherhood journey has most influenced your entrepreneurial journey?
The part of motherhood that influenced my entrepreneurial journey came from the saying 'it takes a village'. I only took 2 weeks off for my two oldest after delivery and 9 days after my youngest. My three girls grew up at the clinic and on the road with sports teams, which gave me the ability to be with them and an appreciation for those who can't do that. It also changed the platform on how my clinics operate to be safe spaces, spaces for anyone to bring their kids so they can focus on their health while still being a mom/parent. It gave me patience, compassion and awareness that parents have to have an opportunity to take care of themselves.
Has your definition of success changed since becoming a mother? How so?
Oh, 100%!! My view on success has definitely changed. As much as my success in helping people matters to me, how my girls see me, witness how much I do for my community, hear people talking about their MOM, and view my successes matter much more.
What values do you hope to model for your children through your work and leadership?
The values I work from each and every day are;
KINDNESS: You never know what is going on with someone, and a smile or a kind gesture goes a long way.
DREAM BIG; there is so much you can do if you believe in yourself.
INTEGRITY: Do everything with integrity; stay honest!
WORK THE HARDEST: Hard work does pay off. The long hours build character and form your worth.
What boundaries have you learned to set in order to protect both your family life and your business growth?
This is a great question that took me many years to learn. Boundaries as a self-employed mom comes with time and work. I am much better at it now, I now put myself and my family first, with work a very close second. I had to work through guilt; I knew people needed me to feel better. It forced me to get really good at balancing more patients per hour, which reduced the length of my days so I could be home every night for dinner. Then I added more practitioners which allowed me to take shorter days on Wednesdays and Fridays. But, I also taught my family about my value in this community and how much my patients mean to me, so if I had to take extra hours they knew how important it was to me to help, and we have become a stronger family unit for it.
What legacy do you hope to leave—not just for your children, but for other women following in your footsteps?
My legacy has become more important to me as I celebrate my 25th year as an AT and owner of Active Therapy +. I first opened in August of 2000 at a time where survival was most important lol. Now with my girls, I spend more time thinking of what I will be leaving behind. I hope that people have felt cared for and appreciated in my care. I hope the sporting community benefited from me being in Sudbury. I hope my legacy has proven that girls can do hard things and can be respected and seen as experts. I hope my community is better for what I was able to achieve!

Thank you for all you do for our community 💕You have proven that if you put your mind to something there is nothing you can’t do. 💕
Kim is amazing. She treated me for free while I was in university, I had no idea how much trauma I had done to my ankle as a young athlete. Thank you Kim.
