Moms on a Mission: Lindsay from Near Nature
Near Nature started as a wedding and event floral design business 11 years ago. Lindsay always had that intention but about 7 years ago she bought a 5 acre property and has slowly added a specialty cut flower farm and workshop studio at her home in the Valley. She’s a one woman show with some help from family & friends!!!!
Who are the women in your life—past or present—who inspire you to keep going, and how do you honour them in your journey?
For sure Gabe babe!!! I would say she has been one of my biggest entrepreneurial mentors and a great friend to dream big and bounce ideas around with…not to mention huge supporter!
As for as flower farming and floral design styles, I would have to say Erin Benzakein from Floret and Jennie Love from Love and Fresh Flowers. I have attended both of their workshops and was very inspired by both of their unique styles and florist/flower farmer journeys.
And my Mum. Talk about resilient and the strongest woman that I know.
How I honour them, would be to stay true to myself and my brand. Fresh flowers inspired but nature!
What part of your motherhood journey has most influenced your entrepreneurial journey?
Going back to being resilient!!! There are so many curveballs and being able to adapt and just keep going, giving it all you got. I feel like this sounds like a recipe for burnout but if you love what you do and really take some time away when you can it has proved to be sustainable for me.
Oh and sometimes you just have to let yourself be burned out…lol
Has your definition of success changed since becoming a mother? How so?
I don’t this so but it has changed the timeframe in which I have been able to reach those successes. In turn, it has taught me to be more patient and forgive myself for not always checking all the boxes each day. Success doesn’t happen over night, you have to chip away at it!
What values do you hope to model for your children through your work and leadership?
Being empathetic, creative and hard working will make you feel good about yourself at the end of the day. I always tell Evy to just love what you do…because you spent a lot of time doing it!!!!
What boundaries have you learned to set in order to protect both your family life and your business growth?
The most important thing and hardest lesson is to not under value your time. Every second spent working for my business is time away from my family. It’s okay to put a price on that and to turn away opportunities or potential clients if they don't fit into your schedule. This is a lesson I continue to learn the hard way but I am getting better through experience.
What legacy do you hope to leave—not just for your children, but for other women following in your footsteps?
That's a hard question….but the easiest answer is to find something you love and then give it your all!!!!
Also, all women are stronger than they think.
